This weekend, The Podium is holding Food and Flair, a food and artisan crafts “curated by Lori Baltazar of Dessert Comes First.” Dessert Comes First, as you know, is one of the better food blogs this side of town. It has followed the blog-to-book trajectory, with Fully Booked publishing and putting out Lori’s book last year.
“This is the first time I’ll be showcasing purveyors of savory food and artisan craftsmakers,” says Lori over email, saying the Podium gave her a free hand at choosing the fair’s participants. Her criteria? “New, emerging talents,” the blogger says.
Some, like My Little Spatula and Teaspoon Desserts are largely unheard of, so it will be quite a delight to join in on the fun. “They’re my new favorites, [which I’ve found] eating my way around Manila and being my usually curious self,” Lori continues.
On her blog, Lori gave a delicious sneak peekas to what the public can expect. There’s the porchetta from Il Ponti. “What lechon wants to be,” she writes.

“Cheescakes that a departure from the ordinary,” she says Of Teaspoon Desserts. And of macarons of Alchemy? “Manila’s best macarons. And I mean THE BEST.”
While she’s excited for her book signing on Saturday — “I’d love to meet my readers!” — Lori says she’s also looking forward to Sunday’s cake bake demo. “My friend and professional baker Cory Untalan will be demonstrating how to make a rainbow cake. She’ll be decorating it using the ombre method.”
